“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” -Albert Einstein
Figure skaters are insane. I’m not talking about the Tanya Hardings, cut someone with your skate kind of insane (although in the skating world I’m sure we can all agree there are those kind of insanes). The inane I’m talking about is Albert Einstein quotes, “Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” How many of you know skaters or athletes that train an element over and over and OVER again but don’t change anything about it? Maybe if I do 100 axels today, I will land one. WRONG. In order to master a skill, you must make sure that you are practicing it in the correct way.
I was inspired by writing this post after attending a Grassroots to Champions (G2C) seminar this past weekend. There, they stated Albert Einsteins quote and also said, “Perfect practice makes perfect, practice doesn’t make perfect.” The reason is because you could be practicing doing something wrong and then it will never get any better. This not only applies for skating, but in other sports and aspects in life. So before you start practicing, make sure you are taking the proper steps to make your practice perfect in order to achieve perfection.
